Michael Appel & Phan Tuong Long share a passion for cultivating the finest cup of coffee — from the origin of the bean all the way to pouring a fresh cup.

Michael, a former United States Air Force Officer, and Long, a coffee enthusiast from Vietnam, come from different parts of the world but found an immediate connection through their shared obsession with exceptional coffee.

Their friendship began during Mike's travels in Vietnam. They quickly discovered they had something unusual in common: the same pour-over equipment, hand grinders, precision scales, and an appreciation for the ritual and craft behind a truly great cup.

Then they unearthed the coffee that changed everything: Liberica from Hue — a limited, all-season bean from Central Vietnam with a uniquely distinctive tasting note of jackfruit.

For Mike, it became his favorite cup of coffee experienced around the globe. That discovery became the beginning of Appel & Long.
